Notice of Solicitation of Candidates


The Town of Georgetown will hold its
Annual Municipal Election
Saturday, May 8, 2010 from 1:00 PM until 7:00 PM.

Mayor
Town Council Person for the Third Ward
Town Council Person for the Fourth Ward

Will be considered during this election. Any qualified candidate interested in filing for these offices may do so at the Town Hall. The filing deadline is Thursday, April 16, 2010 at 5:00 p.m.

Guidelines for Candidates:

     1. The Mayor shall be at least twenty-one (21) years of age, a citizen of the United States and of the State of Delaware, a bona fide resident of the Town of Georgetown.
     2. The Town Council Person from the Third Ward shall be twenty-one (21) years of age, a citizen of the United States, the State of Delaware, a bona fide resident of the Town of Georgetown, and a bona fide resident of the Third Ward.
     3. The Town Council Person from the Fourth Ward shall be twenty-one (21) years of age, a citizen of the United States, the State of Delaware, a bona fide resident of the Town of Georgetown, and a bona fide resident of the Fourth Ward.


Terms of Office:
Mayor & Council terms of office shall be for a period of two (2) years.

Voter Registration:
  Voter Registration deadline for the 2010 Municipal Election is
Friday, April 23, 2010 at 4:30 PM

You must be a registered voter in the Town of Georgetown. It is still necessary to register with the Town of Georgetown, even if you are a registered voter with the State of Delaware.

At such Annual Municipal Election, every person, male or female, who shall have attained the age of eighteen (18) years on the date of the Annual Municipal Election and who shall be a bona fide resident of The Town of Georgetown shall have one (1) vote, provided he or she is registered on the “Books of Registered Voters” of The Town of Georgetown.

You may register to vote at the Town Hall until Friday, April 23, 2010 until 4:30 PM.  Any registered voter that fails to vote in two (2) consecutive Annual Municipal Elections will be required to register again in order to be eligible to vote in the Annual Municipal Election.

Absentee Voting

Any registered voter of the Town of Georgetown, who wishes to vote by absentee voting, may do so by obtaining an “Affidavit for Absentee Voting” at the Town Hall. Absentee ballots will be available April 19, 2010. Absentee ballots can either be picked up at Town Hall or mailed. The deadline for voting by absentee ballot is May 7, 2010 at 12:00pm.
